Appointment of new CEO at WSPC

The Trustees of the Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre are delighted to announce the appointment of Tonya Ellis as our new Chief Executive Officer.

With extensive experience in equine leadership, Tonya brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the WSPC. In the role of CEO, Tonya will lead the WSPC in its ongoing commitment to the provision of riding and equine therapy for children, specialising in those with special needs and physical disabilities. The Board of Trustees is confident that Tonya has all the capabilities to drive the charity forward successfully.

Tonya is currently a freelance equine instructor with wide experience in teaching horses and riders of varying ages, abilities, and needs, whilst providing a safe, fun, and intuitive environment for continuous development. She also plays a key role in training the Royal Veterinary College student equestrian team. Tonya first became involved with the WSPC as a senior instructor back in 1992. Tonya’s leadership and strategic vision align seamlessly with the WSPC's charitable aims.

Tonya shared her excitement about joining the WSPC, "I am honoured to be part of an organisation that has made a significant difference to the lives of so many children and young people, many of whom have learning difficulties and physical disabilities. Together, with the dedicated team of staff and volunteers at WSPC, we will strive to continue to make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve."

Current CEO, Sister Mary-Joy Langdon, added “I’m thrilled to pass the responsibility for leading this special charity to Tonya. Her passion and vision align perfectly with the heart of our mission here at the WPSC.”

Sister Mary-Joy will continue as CEO for the remainder of this calendar year and Tonya is going to pick up the reins from 1st January 2025. The Board of Trustees will work with Sister Mary-Joy and Tonya to ensure a seamless transition period.
